Our Imprint

Virgulilla Press is the publishing imprint of Enchanted Byways Photography, dedicated exclusively to New Mexico and its layered, often unsettled histories.

The name comes from the virgulilla, a small mark used in early handwritten and printed texts to signal pause, separation, or transition, long before punctuation was standardized. Unlike the tilde, which evolved to indicate sound, the virgulilla was structural. It shaped meaning and was placed deliberately, by hand.

That idea sits at the center of our work. New Mexico’s history does not resolve neatly. It is defined by overlap, erasure, and continuity existing at the same time. Our work lives in those in-between spaces, where archive meets landscape, and where memory and documentation intersect.

We document what remains and acknowledge what has vanished, drawing on primary sources and photography that function as record rather than embellishment. Each project is produced with care for craft, accuracy, and restraint.

Virgulilla Press publishes work meant to be read slowly, handled often, and kept—records of place made with intention.
